The CAD LAB 2000 Module is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of mechanical design with the use of CAD. CAD LAB can be used to either enhance or replace traditional paper and pencil based introductory mechanical drawing and drafting classes. CAD LAB  introduces the fundamental concepts of 2D and 3D mechanical design in a friendly and easy to understand format.

CAD LAB  provides the students with very detailed step-by-step instructions for completing a carefully crafted series of projects. Although the students will use CAD software throughout, the emphasis is on learning about the mechanical design process rather than on learning how to be a CAD operator. The powerful and user friendly CADKEY software is made even easier through the use of a custom toolbar. All CADKEY functions required for completing the mechanical drawing and design projects are directly available to the student without the need to become a "CAD operator." Standard "seed drawing" files are provided that take care of configuring the necessary software settings, allowing the students to concentrate on the subject of mechanical design, not on learning a CAD interface.

Flexi-Course curriculum! The CAD LAB module is presented in a Flexi-course format that allows the instructor easily adapt it to local needs. It can be structured to provide a 5, 10, or 15 day curriculum.

Easily integrated into traditional mechanical drawing courses! Some CAD software is so complex that teachers have had to add a separate course just to teach the software. Sometimes CAD is reserved for only a few advanced students. The CAD LAB software is so easy to learn that it soon gets out of the way, and the teacher can focus on the real subject of mechanical design and utilize CAD simply as an electric pencil. This is good news for teachers who are not interested in training CAD operators, but who are interested in having students focus on the subject of mechanical drawing and design. By using the CAD LAB software in a traditional class, teachers are finding that they can cover more mechanical drawing and design course content in less time because students draw faster with an electric pencil than with a mechanical pencil.
